In our house, Its all about Halloween. I’d even go as far as to say that it rivals Christmas in popularity with us. In part, this is due to my husband being slightly obsessed with fireworks and horror movies. Halloween was a big part of our childhoods, growing up in Northern Ireland. I love to get all our friends together with plenty of food, drink and fun. My husband does pumpkin carving and games with the kids while I prepare the food. Then we terrorise the local neighbourhood with backyard explosions.
This soap is in celebration of all things Halloween and is called Spooks and Spells. It’s fragranced with Love Potion and has a spooky tiger stripe design (In this case more like a zebra stripe!) No recipe with this one but use something fairly slow moving and use the full complement of water.
To do the tiger stripe, you just keep pouring in alternate colours along the mould. You are not aiming to do separate layers but instead just a thin stream of soap each time achieves the best result. The thinner your soap batter is, the thinner the lines will be.
Work quickly to avoid the batter thickening up too much as you are pouring and make sure you try to pour an even amount along. It is easy to pour too much or too little in areas along your mould so try to compensate as you go along. My middle area in the mould was lower than the ends and you will see me putting more soap batter into the middle and ignoring the ends towards the end of the pour.
If you are going to use embeds like mine, make sure you make them in advance. I have used Melt and Pour soap to make mine but you can use cold process if you prefer. I used silicone ice cube trays to get the skull and ghost shapes I wanted. I used a tall and skinny mould but a regular loaf mould will work just as well.
Quite an easy technique so I recommend you give it a try! All the best until next time.
